Wonderbringers Newsletter with Monica Parker

Hello wonderseekers!
This week’s newsletter will be short, as I’m on holiday! And because I was rushing about last week preparing to head away, I left a typo in last week’s newsletter. Within 15 seconds of hitting send, I had an email from a reader calling attention to it. Now let me say, I hate typos and they make me a bit nuts, but even I was amazed at the speed with which he was in touch to make me aware of my error. He’s clearly a committed perfectionist!
My natural tendency is towards perfectionism too, so my immediate reaction was chagrin — I hate errors. But then I reminded myself that perfectionism is a illusory, limiting belief like so many others. Why? Because perfectionism isn’t good for performance. Because perfectionism means taking fewer risks. Because perfectionism is terrible for our mental health. And because perfect doesn’t exist.
So I’ll keep trying to live by the mantra that perfect is the enemy of the good, or, as Confucius said, "Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.”
What about you? Is there something you should be pursuing, but you’re letting perfectionism get in the way?
Some wonderbringers for me this week:
‘How I drank 26 glasses of wine and still finished the London Marathon in under five hours’: Wine marathoner.
Sweet smell of success: Aromatherapy may lead to a 226% increase in cognition.
Earth Day 2024: Witness our changing planet in 12 incredible satellite images.
Also, thanks to Pete Mockaitis for the great conversation last week on his podcast, How to be Awesome at Your Job. Check it out here!
With wonder,
