Hello wonderseekers!
March is always such an exciting month for me. For starters, I have so many special people in my life with birthdays in March. My husband, dad, brother, and at least half a dozen friends all have birthdays this month. It’s also International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. But this week I’m focusing on National Reading Month!
I love to read. When I’m researching, I tend to read nonfiction—popular science and psychology books, mostly. But to relax, I tend more towards fiction. My favorite genres are historical fiction and stories set in the South, and I do love a good spy novel!
Reading is so good for our brain. And this is found across all languages globally. As humans, we crave stories, and reading helps us find them. And for those who love the feel of a “real” book in their hands, reading a good ol’ fashioned printed book can be extra beneficial, as it aids in memory and concentration. (I’m legally blind, so I need my Kindle to make the text bigger, but I still cherish my library of real books.)
In the video this week, I’ll share what specific genre can help you build a stronger wonder mindset (and make you a better mind-reader, too!)

Some book wonderbringers for me this week:
Remember summer reading lists as a child? How’s this for a reading list: PEN America at 100: A Reading List.
And another one, just fiction: The 10 Best Fiction Books of 2023.
My favorite historical fiction author right now is the late James Michener. He even makes geology dramatic (and funny. And touching (somehow???)): 10 Best James Michener Books.
Reading is under threat in America. Book bans are at an all-time high. If you want to support access to books, you can donate to PEN America in their efforts to protect writers and readers. Another way to support reading? Support your local library!
And thanks to everyone who took part in the wonder-based travel survey! It’s still open if you want to participate.
With wonder,
