Wonderbringers Newsletter with Monica Parker

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had heaps of food and festivities during this shared period of global pause. I enjoyed taking some time to relax and reflect, and while I can’t say I am raring to go quite yet, I am easing back into the activity of the new year.
I know this is a time for many to set New Year’s resolutions, and if that is your thing, more power to you. I am not a big fan myself. Mostly because I know the data show resolutions don't do a great job of sticking, but also, it seems odd to me to greet a fresh, shiny, newborn year with a list of stuff you want to change about it. I prefer the idea of vision setting — just as you might have a vision for the magnificent moments your newborn could experience or a vision for the successes of a new job. You can read more of my take on resolutions in a piece I wrote years ago, but it still feels evergreen.
You probably also noticed a new look to Wonderbringers! When I started the newsletter a year ago, I focused on getting it out and not making it perfect. Fear not! It will never be perfect, but I thought a slightly slicker design might give this lovely community something a bit nicer to look at.
My message today is about my words for the year. Do you have any words for the year?

Some wonderbringers for me this week:
When considering resolutions, check out Hunter S. Thompson’s advice: Beware of looking for goals. Look for a way of life.
Still not ready to “circle back”?: Have an Icelandic horse write your emails for you.
Keeping the light on: The US’s last official lighthouse keeper retires this week.
Real Simple published a lovely interview with me in their December print issue. You may still be able to find copies, and if you are a subscriber and missed it, do have a look. I'll try to get a link to a digital version, but for now, it’s just in print.
Lastly, I’ll be making a vision board for the year and am putting together a virtual vision board session for anyone who wants to join. In it, we will look at the scientific reasons vision boards work (but resolutions don’t) and work together to create vision boards for ourselves. If you want to join, email me here, and I’ll send you more info.
With wonder and thanks,
