Wonderbringers Newsletter with Monica Parker

Hello, Wonderseekers,
No video this week as I feel I can better express myself with a written message.
Last week the newsletter made mention of Juneteenth and Pride. I shared how wonder supports inclusion and belonging and then I had a few Juneteenth and Pride-related links. It was about as innocuous an exercise in allyship as one could get. No grand pronouncements. No political agenda. Just supporting my fellow humans who have historically not been treated with the same respect as others. No big deal.
Or so I thought.
I had many people choose to unsubscribe with several making it crystal clear why they were leaving. I will spare you the details, but they ran the gamut from disappointing to misinformed to offensively bigoted.
My reaction, beyond surprise, is to say, “Thank you for showing me who you are. May you find peace.”
True wonderseekers see the wonder in all humanity. They see the sacredness inherent in each of us because of, and not despite our differences. And not sacredness in some distant “bless their hearts” sort of way, but rather in a “sit down, look you in the eye, ask you about your life”sort of way. They move towards meaningful, nuanced, and even thorny subjects, because they know in that process of open, curious exploration there is magic to be found.
I am grateful for those of you who choose to be a part of this growing community and I hope we can continue to discover the magic in work, life, and, most of all, each other.
Some wonderbringers for me this week:
Wonder at work: Nike’s chief design officer tells new college grads his superpower is ‘wonder’.
Wonder in your summer reads: The Atlantic’s Four Books to Inspire Wonder.
If you need an excuse to rest (but you shouldn’t!): A daytime nap is good for the brain.
I’m off to Paris this week speaking at the Investher Summit. There are still last minute tickets for anyone who would like to join us!
With wonder,
