Hello, Wonderseekers!
I’ve been loving the glimpses of spring, and then getting impatient when winter shows itself again. I am chronically impatient, and yet patience is a vital component of a wonder mindset. It’s also key to savoring one of the greatest joys of spring: birdwatching. This week is all about our avian friends—and patience.

Think of this as your mid-week moment of wondrous reflection. Close your eyes, put the phone on silent, and take just two minutes out of your day to be transported.
Our contribution this week comes from Alana in Brooklyn, NY who is an avid birdwatcher. I love seeing her wonder-infused instagram posts sharing her latest birding milestone. (Fun fact: some birdwatchers create a “lifelist” seeking out as many rare species as possible and in the UK, these types of birders are called “twitchers”.)
Alana shared this with me about birding as a source of wonder: “I started birdwatching at the beginning of the pandemic and now it’s essential for my day-to-day. I love a long ramble in the park but even five minutes looking out the window and watching the birdfeeder—it’s like meditating. You breathe in, observe the world around you and the creatures in it, and marvel in the wonder of nature. I love learning about birds and I also love standing back and just letting them be real wonderbringers!”
Birding takes patience though, and Alana has it! You can see her patience pay off in this gorgeous video of her hand feeding some curious (and hungry) spring birds.
